Warren Henry Goolsby Jr., 92, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, Aug. 10, 2024, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Buena Vista Nov. 26, 1931, a son of the late Warren H. Goolsby Sr. and Frances Mays Goolsby.
Excluding a few years living in New Jersey and Mississippi, he was a lifetime resident of Buena Vista. He had a successful career in insurance business, in Rockbridge and Botetourt counties and surrounding areas. He was the founder of the name “Fighting Blues” at PMHS. He was a longtime member of the Buena Vista Baptist Church. Warren was a member of the Buena Vista Masonic Lodge #186 for over 60 years. He enjoyed hunting game, gardening and yard work, collecting firearms and antique and vintage collectibles. After retiring, he enjoyed restoring antique classic cars.
In addition to his wife of 75 years, Betty Jane Foster Goolsby, he is survived by his daughter, Diane G. Burger of Buena Vista; sons, Warren H. Goolsby III of Windsor, Calif., and R. Gregory Goolsby of McKinleyville, Calif.; sister, Emily G. Brady of Staunton; and brothers, Leon Goolsby of Port St Lucie, Fla., and Steven Goolsby of Richmond; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and innumerable friends.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Aug. 26, at 2 p.m. in the chapel at Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Home in Buena Vista and will receive friends prior to the service from 1 to 2 p.m.
The family will also receive friends and family after the service at the home at 462 Sycamore Ave., Buena Vista.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Buena Vista Baptist Church, 2174 Chestnut Ave., Buena Vista, VA.
