MORRIS HARRIS
Born on Dec. 7, 1949, in Williamsburg, he was a cherished figure in his community and was beloved by many.
Morris was known for his deep love for his family, especially his children and grandchildren, who were the joy of his life. He was a lifelong Redskins fan and enjoyed sharing this passion with his friends and family. Morris’s home was always open to the friends of his children and grandchildren, earning him the nickname “Daddy” and “Grandaddy” of many.
He is survived by his children, Stephanie (Toriano), Eric, Jerome, Tracey (Staffant Sr.) of Buena Vista and Clyde (Cherry) of Rocky Mount. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Staffant Jr., British, Tunisha, Tyrek, Genesis, Prince, Keisha, Alexis, Isaiah and Marleyanna; and great-grandchildren Naiva, Jamir and Xavier. He also leaves behind his sister, Gracie Johnson; a special friend, David Sanderson; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Morris was preceded in death by the love of his life, Mary Lou Carter; his mother, Patsy Johnson Harris, and his father, Willie Harris Sr.; his sisters, Susie Wallace and Willie Bell Johnson Cooke; and his brothers, Early Johnson, Joseph Johnson, Willie Harris Jr. and Luvert Harris.
A memorial service to celebrate Morris’s life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, at First Baptist Church of Buena Vista. The repass will follow the service.
The family is being assisted by Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Home during this difficult time.
Morris’s life and legacy will be remembered fondly by all who knew him. NG
