ALICE ROANE

ALICE ROANE

ALICE “POO” ROANE

Alice “Poo” Roane, 91, of Lexington had a peaceful transition to be with our Lord and Savior on Aug. 23, 2024, at her home in Lexington.

She was born on July 19, 1933, in Lexington to the late Desmond Radcliff Jackson Sr. and Alberta Merchant Jackson. Poo was married to the late Jerry E. Roane for 62 years until his passing.

As a life-long member of Randolph Street United Methodist Church, she was the choir director, a member of the United Methodist Women, the church secretary and the treasurer for 40 years. She played the pipe organ at church for more than 60 years.

A consummate athlete, Poo was always active in sports. From coaching a boy’s little league baseball team to a championship in the 1960s (only losing one game) to becoming a member of the Virginia State Bowling Hall of Fame, sports brought her joy. She played both fast-pitch and slow-pitch softball and was an integral part of the state champions, Green Beret softball team.

She will be sorely missed by her four children, Kirk Roane (Sandy), Valarie Roane Stores (Charissa, granddaughter), Yolanda Diamond (Phillip), Troy Roane (Cynthia), her sisters, Margaret Jackson Jenkins, Candie Jackson DeBruhl, her brother Desmond Jackson Jr. and 11 grandchildren, nieces, and cousins.

Her celebration of life will be held at Randolph Street United Methodist Church on Saturday, Aug. 31, at 11 a.m.
