HARRIET FIX

HARRIET FIX

Harriet Williams Fix peacefully passed away on Labor Day Monday, Sept. 2, at Havenwood.

She was born on April 16, 1928, the first child of DeWitt Talmage Williams and Inez Mackey Williams.  On July 19, 1947, she married James Henry Fix Jr.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jim, her brother Charles Dewitt Williams and her son Talmage Mackey Fix.

A lifelong member of Timber Ridge Presbyterian Church, she served as a Sunday school teacher, youth fellowship leader and chairman of the history committee. She had been an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the AARP.

In addition to raising her children, caring for her mother, keeping her grandchildren and great-grandchildren from time to time, she worked as a CNA, a seamstress and milked cows on her brother's dairy farm. Harriet enjoyed going to craft shows and making crafts.  Many homes in Lexington showcased her amazing sewing abilities with beautiful curtains, slipcovers, and cornices.  Harriet could make anything she put her mind to.  She could get more done before most people get out of bed.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Ann and David Runkle; her son and daughter-in-law, DeWitt and Bonnie Fix; her grandchildren, Sarah and her husband Blakely Hockman, Andrew Runkle, Wittnie and her husband Adam Mason and Matthew Fix; her great-grandchildren, Hunter Hockman, Forrest Hockman, Peyton Fix, Atleigh Mason, Isabelle Fix, Wesley Fix and Laken Mason.  Also surviving are her sister Mary Mackey Leech, sister-in-law Martha Stuart and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.  Nothing gave her more pleasure than spending time with family.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 7, at Timber Ridge ARP Cemetery with the the Rev. Gregory Fleshman officiating.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to the employees of Havenwood and ConnectionsPlus Hospice of Rockbridge for their loving care of Harriet.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to ConnectionsPlus of Rockbridge, 315 Myers St., Lexington, VA 24450.

Arrangements by Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, VA.
