BILLY WHARTON

William Edward “Billy” Wharton, 57, of Houston Street, Lexington, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2024, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.

Mr. Wharton was born in Staunton on Sept. 26, 1967, a son of Betty Jean (Halterman) Bayne and the late Thomas Edward Wharton.

Billy was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and the Dallas Cowboys. He was a history buff and was always willing to help others.

Surviving, in addition to his mother of Staunton, are two sisters, Barbara Wharton and her partner Robert Hughes of Staunton, and Katherine L. “Kathy” Rexrode and her husband David of Sugar Grove, W.Va.; and nieces and nephews including Alyssa Rexrode, Dustin Wharton, Robbie Hughes and Anthony Smith.

A memorial gathering was held Monday, Oct. 7, at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.

Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton, is in charge of his arrangements.
