JACK SNARR

JACK SNARR

John “Jack” Maxwell Snarr, aged 96, of Raphine passed away on Oct. 18, 2024, at Shenandoah Valley Health & Rehab in Buena Vista. Born on Oct. 29, 1927, Jack dedicated his life to service, both in his career and in his volunteer work.

Jack served valiantly during World War II as part of the U.S. Navy Construction Brigade, operating in the Philippines and other locations. After his honorable discharge, he transitioned to a civilian life that mirrored the commitment he displayed in the military. He began his career delivering heating coal at the young age of 14 and later became a commercial truck driver. A proud member of the Teamsters International Local 29, Jack continued his involvement with the union as an honorary retiree member after his retirement. During his career and after retirement, Jack, with the help of his wife and children, also raised animals and crops on their family farm.

Beyond his professional life, Jack was deeply committed to veteran affairs. He volunteered for 15 years at the VA Medical Center in Salem, where he received numerous awards for his service. His leadership was further exemplified as he served as Commander of the American Legion Post 126 and as an officer at the VFW, both in Buena Vista.

Jack is survived by his loving wife, Dolores Snarr; daughter, Theresa Lynn VanName; sons, Maxwell Raymond Snarr (Karen Parker) and Rocky Wayne Snarr (Kimberly Woodward); grandchildren Shane Orienta Yoder, Ian Brent Snarr, Kelly Ruth Snarr, Jordon Lowery, Tyler Snarr; 10 great- grandchildren; and his brother, William Robert Snarr of Bridgeport, W.Va.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan Elizabeth Snarr, and son, John Michael Snarr.

A memorial service will be held in the future to accommodate planning and travel for distant family members. The time and date will be announced. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Legion Post 29, Buena Vista, honoring Jack’s lifetime of service and dedication to his community and country.

Arrangements are being handled by Bolling, Grose, & Lotts Funeral Home and  Cremation Services.
