EVELYN GOODBAR
She was born July 7, 1941, in Roanoke, a daughter of Thomas J. Towler and Mary B. Towler.
She was a devoted wife to her husband of 44 years and was also a loving mother and grandmother.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Goodbar was preceded in death by her husband, Milton Goodbar, and brother, Malcolm B. Towler.
Mrs. Goodbar is survived by her daughter, Mary Marcia “Marci” Lawhorne, and her husband, Robert F. “Chip” Lawhorne Jr.; and two grandchildren, Savannah Lawhorne Frongillo (Michael) and Robert F. “Trace” Lawhorne III. Mrs. Goodbar is also survived by one sister, Virginia T. Vess (Clinton, deceased) and two brothers, Thomas W. Towler (Angie, deceased) and John E. Towler (Doris, deceased), and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her lifelong friend, Loretta Whittington, (Jack, deceased).
Mrs. Goodbar was a graduate of Natural Bridge High School and an employee of Dr. Bierer at Bierer’s Pharmacy for 12 years. She was a devoted homemaker and supporter of her husband’s business, Chittum Insurance. She was a member of Calvary Brethren Church and loved the Lord. She enjoyed long walks, traveling, and spending time with her family. She was a previous member of the Lexington Junior Women’s Club and volunteered in her church’s nursery. She was the final 20th surviving member of her husband’s nine siblings and their spouses.
The funeral will be conducted by Pastor Joel Ward and Pastor Rick Ramsey at Calvary Brethren Church at 2 p.m. tomorrow, Thursday, Oct. 24. The family will receive friends and family at 1 p.m. at the church. The burial will follow at the Natural Bridge Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Calvary Brethren Church.
