FRANK MIRIELLO

Frank Anthony Miriello of Lexington died peacefully on Friday, Oct. 25, 2024, at Shenandoah Valley Health and Rehab in Buena Vista. He was 79 years old.

Frank was born in Kulpmont, Pa., on Jan. 7, 1945, to parents Ralph and Jasmaine Miriello. He attended East Stroudsburg University and graduated in 1967 where he was a three-year starter on the football team and team captain and MVP in 1966.

He began his career as a football coach at various high schools in Pennsylvania, and eventually moved on to coach college football at Washington and Lee University, Virginia Military Institute, Hampden-Sydney College, and Coastal Carolina University during a storied career that spanned over 50 years.

Following his retirement in 2012 after 17 years as head football coach at Washington and Lee University, Frank served as senior defensive quality control coach at Coastal Carolina University for two years. Frank was a five-time Old Dominion Athletic Conference Coach of the Year and 2006 AFCA Division Ill Regional Coach of the Year. He was inducted into the East Stroudsburg University Hall of Fame in 2016.

Frank was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. He enjoyed keeping up with local sports and outdoor activities, as well as completing carpentry and landscaping projects.

Frank is survived by his wife Dedre (Sandmeyer), son Thadeus David and many other family members who will miss him dearly.

A celebration of life will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, at Harrison’s Funeral Home in Lexington.

A Mass of Resurrection will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at Church of Holy Angels, 855 Scott Street, Kulpmont, PA 17834. Burial to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Brennan’s Farm Road, Kulpmont, PA 17834.

Frank had both ALS and Dementia in his final years. ALS is a horrible disease with no cure and treatments in their infancy. In his honor, we ask in lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the ALS Association in his memory. (www. als.org/?Qampaign) NG
