ROGER HIGGINS
He was born on Jan. 24, 1946, in Rockbridge County, son of late Tanzy Brown Higgins and Louise Vest Higgins.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Phyllis (Jeanie) Staton Higgins; his three daughters, Cynthia Gay Engleman (Douglas), Janet Niday (Joe), and Sandra Wilhelm (Chuck); seven grandkids, Maryca Cody, Matthew Engleman, Paula Pooley, Eric Wilhelm, Kayla Wilhelm, Marcus Engleman and Samantha Niday; 10 great-grandkids; siblings, Elizabeth Ferguson and Nancy Kirby; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were siblings Edith Coffey, Hunter Higgins, Marshall Higgins and Lytle Higgins.
Roger retired from the Rockbridge County school system after almost 20 years. He took pride in planting flowers and gardening. He enjoyed canning the foods he grew with his wife and watching their favorite Western shows. He took the most special pride in spending time with his grandkids and great grandkids.
A funeral was conducted Saturday, Oct. 26, at Harrison Funeral Chapel by the Rev. George Warden. Burial followed at Ebenezer A.R. Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Arrangements were by Harrison Funeral Home and Crematory. NG
