PAUL WATTS

Paul Richard Watts, 69, of Buena Vista, passed away on Oct. 30, 2024. He was born on Nov. 9, 1954, to the late Ralph M Watts and Emma Tomlin Watts. 

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Samuel McDowell Watts, Nellie Watts Jenkins and Howard and Nettie Tomlin.

Paul graduated from Parry McCluerHigh School and pursued further education at Bluefield College and Ferrum College. He retired from a fulfilling career at Daikin. Throughout his life, Paul was a devout member of the Buena Vista Presbyterian Church.

Known for his generosity and compassion, Paul was a mentor and hero to many, especially the youth in his community. He played a significant role in the Parry McCluerHigh School boy's basketball team's first state championship, earning a championship ring for his encouragement and support. 

Paul was also an avid sportsman, excelling in basketball, baseball, and golf. He left a legacy at Parry McCluer High School as a basketball legend, scoring 992 career points, prior to the 3-point shot, with 502 of his points during his senior year. His talent and accomplishments were recognized with all-district honors his junior and senior years and was honored with All-Region and All-State MVP awards during his senior year. As team captain his senior year, Paul led the team to 20 straight wins, a record that has not been broken, and a 24-3 winning record.

Paul is survived by his devoted wife, Kay Huffman Watts; son and best friend, Michael Paul Watts; brothers, Mac (Judy), Brian (Mary), and Joe (Gill); nieces and nephews, Chris, Brian Jr. (Becky), Kelly Brooke (Kenny), Kelsea, Stacey, Franklin, Anita, and Amy; great-nieces and nephews, Nate, Memphis, Emma, Brian Ill, Bradack, Gavin, Pyper, and Zachary; along with many lifelong friends.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, Nov. 2, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Bolling, Grose and Lotts Funeral Home.

The funeral service will take place on Sunday, Nov. 3, at 3 p.m. in the Parry McCluerMiddle School gym.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Connections Plus Health and Hospice, Buena Vista Presbyterian Church, or the Parry McCluerHigh School boys' and girls' basketball teams, honoring Paul's life and passions.

Arrangements are being handled by Bolling, Grose, & Lotts Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
