MARGO TOLLIVER

MARGO TOLLIVER

Aug. 15, 1938 – Nov. 5, 2024 A life so full of purpose deserves to be beautifully remembered. Please join us in celebrating the life of Margo Mildredda Tolliver.

Margo was born and raised in Lexington to her parents, Joseph M. Merchant Jr. and Margaret B. Merchant. She graduated from Lylburn Downing School. She married Mr. Benjamin G. Tolliver and the couple was blessed with the birth of their only child, Natalie E. Tolliver.

The Tolliver family relocated to Alexandria to avail themselves of career opportunities. Margo successfully earned licenses in Cosmetology, CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant), and lastly, Pharmacy Technician. Mrs. Tolliver also served as receptionist and switchboard operator for the Alexandria Gazette.

Margo treasured her faith in God and dedicated the remainder of her life to sharing His love with others. She exuded such a bright and joyful spirit that you only needed to be near her to feel the love she shared with all. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

She established Margo’s Pantry for seniors to assist others who needed food. She later studied art and became an artist and crafter and produced exquisite roses. She loved crochet and quilting and blessed many family members and friends with blankets, afghans and quilts.

Margo Tolliver became such a community advocate in her local area that she was personally acknowledged by former President Jimmy Carter.

She is survived by her daughter, Natalie E. Tolliver of Goldsby, Okla. She leaves behind her siblings, brother Joseph M. (Jake) Merchant III (Elizabeth) of Tampa, Fla.; sister Theresa Anne Donaldson (LeRoy) of Springfield, Mass.; brother John Freddie Merchant of Alexandria; and sister Sandra L. Guidry of Goldsby, Okla.

She was preceded in death by her sister Samuella G. Merchant Hunt of Alexandria, and members of her extended family.

Margo brought love and joy to every gathering even at the end of her life. This is the gift she leaves behind.

Funeral services for Margo Tolliver will be held at the Henson Valley Christian Church, 1900 Tucker Road, Ft. Washington, MD 20744, on Saturday, Nov. 30, at 1:30 p.m.
