GARY GEARHART
Born on Oct. 9, 1948, in Roanoke, he grew up in Buena Vista before serving his country in the United States Navy.
After his military service, he settled in Raphine, spending the remainder of his life with his wife of almost 51 years, Dorothy (Drawbond), as a devoted husband. Together, they were traveling companions and best friends who explored all seven continents and visited over 60 countries, creating a lifetime of memories through their shared adventures.
He was a loving father to Kevin Gearhart (Paola) and Curtis Gearhart (Stephanie) and a proud grandfather to Madison Gearhart, his cherished best buddy.

A man of many talents and interests, Gary held the amateur radio call sign WA4DFE and was part of the Rockbridge Amateur Radio Club and the Emergency Service’s Organization (Hospital Hams). He was highly proficient in the digital modes and made radio contacts with Hams in countries around the world. Gary’s passion for tinkering extended to small engine repair and walking his sons through their home projects.
Gary served his country with honor in the United States Navy, earning the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
His faith and devotion to God were evident in his membership at Old Providence A.R. Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder and Sunday school leader.
