On Dec. 10, 2024, Curtis Wesley Caylor of Lexington went to be with his Savior and Lord after battling complications from throat cancer.

Born in Shawnee, Okla., on May 30, 1957, he grew up in Missouri, Mississippi and Oklahoma. He is survived by his wife of 42-plus years, Deborah Caylor.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Christina Green, her husband, Nathan Green, and their children, Micah, Keziah, and Abigail, of Lexington.

Curtis is also survived by his mother, Patricia Caylor of Altus, Okla.; his sisters, Teresa Ewing, Regina Simmons, Tammy Keller and Sheila Tucker, all of Shawnee, Okla.; and his brothers, Shawn Caylor and Dave Caylor of Joplin, Mo., Kenneth Caylor of Shawnee, Okla., Kevin Caylor of Mayflower, Ark., and Damon Caylor of Tecumseh, Okla.

Curtis was preceded in death by his daughter, Kimberly Caylor, and his granddaughter, Jael Green.

Curtis was a dedicated teacher of elementary and middle schoolers for 33 years, retiring from Rockbridge County Schools in 2016. Curtis was also an active member of Manly Memorial Baptist Church, where he served in various capacities for the past 36 years.

Curtis has been active in many volunteer roles since moving to Rockbridge County in 1988, most recently with the Lexington Community Bible Study, ConnectionsPlus Hospice, and the RARA food pantry.

Memorial services were held on Monday, Dec. 16, at Manly Memorial Baptist Church, with Pastor Skyler Daniel officiating.
