In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Karl Arndt (Vivian).
Fred was born and raised in Lexington and was a graduate of Lexington High School. He attended Washington and Lee University, transferred to Randolph- Macon and graduated. Later, he furthered his education and achieved a degree from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington D.C. H e f ulfilled his calling by serving 41 years as a minister in the United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Julia Arndt; son, F. Lindsay Arndt (Gretchen) of Yorktown; daughter, Erika Burkholder of Hampton; grandson, Trevor Arndt; granddaughters, Mikaela Forkin (Thomas) and Amber Roane (Justin); greatgrandchildren Elena, Colton, Ariel; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 4, 2025, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Lexington by the Rev. Anita Mays Lucord. The family will receive friends after the service in the fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to ConnectionsPlus Healthcare Hospice, 315 Myers St., Lexington, VA 24450 or Trinity United Methodist Church, 147 Main St., Lexington, VA 24450.
