FRANCES HARCUS
Frances Koblegard Harcus, 96, of Lexington, passed away Saturday, Dec. 28, 2024, at Kendal of Lexington.
She was born in Petoskey, Mich., the daughter of Ruhl and Marjorie Koblegard and grew up in Fort Pierce, Fla. Frances attended Mary Baldwin College and graduated from Northwestern University with a bachelor’s degree in psychology.
Married to Sinclair John Harcus for 56 years, they lived in Detroit where Frances worked as a probation officer in the Domestic Relations Juvenile Division of the Detroit Recorder Court before moving to raise their family in Bloomfield Hills, Mich.
She actively volunteered in community organizations while she lived in Michigan, Virginia and Florida. She served on Christ Church Cranbrook altar guild for 25 years and on the admittance board at St. Anne’s Mead. Additionally she was an active member of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority and PEO.
She and Sinclair shared their retirement years in Fort Pierce, Fla., and Martinsville, before she moved to Kendal of Lexington in 2008. Gardening, genealogy, sewing, knitting, travel, and her extensive doll collection brought her much joy.
Surviving are her three children, Sinclair John Harcus Jr. (Catherine) of Lexington, Jane Lee Harcus of Crozet, and David Ruhl Harcus (Elizabeth) of High Point, N.C.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Sinclair John Harcus; her brother Ruhl Wendell Koblegard Jr.; and her parents Ruhl Wendell Koblegard and Majorie Lee Koblegard.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in Fort Pierce, Fla.
