Tom became a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity at Iowa State. While working in several colleges and universities, he became an adviser on those campuses where SAE had chapters. Tom served as the fraternity’s chief executive office in Evanston, Ill., for seven years.
Tom retired in 2013 as the executive director of Omicron Delta Kappa. Following his retirement, he volunteered at the Stonewall Jackson Hospital (now Carilion Rockbridge Community Hospital) in the emergency department and served as president of the hospital auxiliary.
