Mary Rosalee Newell Hamilton, 86, of Buena Vista sadly passed away on Dec. 23, 2024.

Mary was and will always be a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and true friend to many.

Mary was born in Buena Vista on Feb. 23, 1938. Mary is preceded in death by her parents Robert and Rosa Newell; sister, Virginia Potter; and brother, Lloyd Newell.

Mary was the youngest of four children, and during her adolescent years she lived in Buena Vista, Norfolk, Pennsylvania, New Mexico and California. Mary returned to Buena Vista where she had met her future husband, Charles Edward Hamilton, and they would be married for 67 years.

Mary started her career as a switchboard operator, a department store sales clerk and eventually establishing an amazing 30-plus year career at Modine Manufacturing in Buena Vista.

Our Mom’s heart was pure and her character was impeccable. She loved God, her family, her friends and animals. Mary was always interested in helping, caring for and interacting with others. She had the ability to always make others smile while seeming to make ones day better. Mary almost always put others before herself. Our Mom loved the seasons and the joy each brought. Christmas was her favorite holiday and her kitchen smells and house greetings will be so dearly missed. The countless memories that Mom helped create will guide us for the rest of our lives. Mom, the pain is gone and Heaven has a new Angel.

Mary is survived by her husband, Charles Hamilton; sons Mike Hamilton (Lori) and Alan Hamilton (Renee); granddaughters Christie Galligan (Erik) and Kaitlyn Darby (Aaron); grandsons Christopher Hamilton and Zach Hamilton (Sara); greatgranddaughters Londyn Galligan, Braelyn Galligan, Baylee Darby and Riley Hamilton; great-grandsons Landon Galligan, Easton and Reece Darby and great-step-granddaughter Emily Galligan; her dear sister Dottie Griffes (Jim); her beloved dog, Precious; and special friends Glenda Campbell, Jane and Sonny Ryman and Laura Sanborn.

Mary’s funeral service was conducted Saturday, Dec. 28, 2024, at Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Chapel and she was buried at Green Hill Cemetery in Buena Vista. NG
