Born Sept. 26, 1956, he was a son of the late Marvin Massie Fitzgerald and Sarah Wheeler Fitzgerald.

Also preceding him in death were his sisters, Ruby Whitten and Barbara Drumwright; and brothers, Wallace Fitzgerald and Ronald Fitzgerald.

Phil loved God, UVA sports teams, and the memories of playing ball with his friends. He appreciated all things in life and everyone who was a part of it. Phil was a retired corrections officer with the Virginia Department of Corrections.

Surviving are his son, Justin Phillip Fitzgerald; granddaughter, Avalon Leigh Miloser; sister, Sherrill Kaye Vaught of Roanoke; niece, whom he called his daughter, Debra Fitzgerald of Lexington; nephews, David Fitzgerald and Timmy Whitten; niece Trudy Cash; and special friends Teresa Markham, Barry Staton, Sidney Smith and Dorsey Hostetter.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, at Harrison Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
