Later, she was also a founding member of the Buena Vista Fire Department Auxiliary where she served for 57 years, holding various leadership positions.
Sammy loved Buena Vista, and she was active in numerous organizations. She was a member of St. John’s United MethodistChurch and the Buena Vista Woman’s Club. Sammy was a loving and giving lady who never met a stranger. She was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone at any time.
Sammy loved going to Nags Head and had many great times there. She also loved camping in her younger years. She told many stories about her beach and camping trips with friends and family. If asked who her favorite president was, she wasted no time in telling you that it was JFK. Sammy enjoyed reading and had numerous books about the Kennedy family.
Sammy loved sports and could often be found at the ballfield or at a basketball game supporting the Big Blues or Little Blues. She really loved her Parry McCluer Blues.
