BILL SMITH SR.

William Michael "Bill" Smith Sr., age 67, of Lexington passed away peacefully on March 30, 2025, at Shenandoah Valley Health and Rehab.

Born on Feb. 1, 1958, in Lexington to Julian Smith and the late Mary Troxell Smith, Bill was a lifelong resident of the area. He graduated from high school and pursued his passion for mechanics, becoming a skilled diesel mechanic. His career allowed him to forge many lasting friendships throughout the community.

Bill dedicated over 40 years of his life to serving as a volunteer firefighter, demonstrating his commitment to his community. He cherished his time spent fishing, whether on the bay catching Striper or enjoying quiet moments with his father, Julian, fishing for catfish. He was also well-known and loved in the Lexington area for his homemade ice cream, a special treat he took great pride in making for many years.

Bill was a father to William Michael Smith Jr. (Kristen) and a loving grandfather to Colton Smith. He is also survived by his sister, Donna Sensabaugh (Randy); his father, Julian Smith (Jane); niece, Mary Collins; and many other cherished family members and friends.

Bill will be remembered for his kind heart, his dedication to his community, and his delicious homemade ice cream. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, April 4, at Harrison Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Clifford Hall and the Rev. Jim Youngblood.
