JIM HORNE
JIM HORNE
Jim was born in Rockbridge County on Aug. 19, 1942, to Elizabeth Vicila Burch and Roscoe Riley Horne. He lost his parents at a young age and was raised by his grandmother, aunt and uncle. After high school, he served his country in the U.S. Army, where he was stationed in Germany.
Jim was a gifted diesel mechanic and worked at Preston Trucking for many years. He later operated his own business, Horne’s Trucking, until his retirement.
Jim was a straight talker and a thoughtful listener. Every year he and Linda hosted Christmas Eve festivities at the home they built and lived in for over 50 years. He was a gracious and patient host, watching his rambunctious nieces and nephews play with a smile on his face. He enjoyed NASCAR and was a Dale Earnhardt fan.
In addition to his parents, Jim was predeceased by his son, Troy Wayne Horne.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Linda Kerr Horne; his daughter, Jessica Nicole Horne; special sister, Susan Bennington (George); sister-in-law Valerie Kerr Lewis; niece Tracy Lewis Treen (Richard); and his nieces, nephews and friends.
A private service was held at Green Hill Cemetery. The family would like to express their gratitude to ConnectionsPlus Healthcare + Hospice, Pastor Mason Jordan, and the Natural Bridge Baptist Church family.
Arrangements were by Harrison Funeral Home and Crematory. NG
