HARRY WHEELER

HARRY WHEELER

On the 31st of March, 2025, Harry Lee Wheeler, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed peacefully with his loving family by his side.

Born on Oct. 19, 1933, to John Sydney and Gladie Ann Wheeler, in the District of Columbia, he was a man of principle and honesty who ensured his family never wanted or went without.

Growing up in Washington, D.C., with his brother John, Harry served in the Air National Guard, spent most of his professional career at Commerce Clearing House, and raised his family in the surrounding metro area.  Upon retirement, and based upon his love for the Shenandoah Valley and the Blue Ridge Mountains, he and his wife moved to the Lexington area where he continued to enjoy his love of golf, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.

If asked to identify himself, he unapologetically anchored his beliefs to the service of his family and friends.  He never wavered to assist, nurture, and provide honest guidance without judgment.  Quick to share a story or shower you with his dry wit, he always made you feel at ease and let you know that you were loved.  A man of conviction, he maintained a passion for history and travel and ensured that his family experienced the world and understood our responsibility to leave it a better place when we depart.  And for all the places that he journeyed, and for those that he touched, all were left better for knowing him.

He is survived by his wife Martha (Marnie); his two sons, John and Andrew; his three daughters, Catherine, Jenny, and Christin; two daughters-in-law Monica and Shelly; three sons-in-law Chris, Jesse and Seth; his grandchildren, Nathen, Ben, Alex, Ryan, Charlie, Bo, Zadie, Ethan, Will, Alyssa and Amanda; and two great-grandchildren, Ellie and Adalyn. The family hopes to carry his legacy forward and provide unto the world the lessons and guidance that he lovingly provided.

Services will be held on Saturday, June 14, at 2 p.m. at Grace Episcopal Church in Lexington to honor and celebrate his life.

In lieu of flowers, for those who wish to make a donation in his honor, the family requests a contribution to an organization that he supported, the Rockbridge Area Relief Association (https://www.raralex.org).

Arrangements are by Harrison Funeral Home and Crematory.
