Charles J. Staton, 91, of Lexington died Saturday, April 1, 2023, at his home.

Born Feb. 1, 1932, in Lexington, he was a son of the late Charles Albert Staton and Anna Bane Staton.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Higgins Staton; sisters, Estelle Burns, Gladys Steele, Nadine Hartless, and Barbara Ann Higgins; brother, Tommy Staton; and great granddaughter, Stephanie McCormick.

Charles retired from Burlington Industries with 38 years of service.

Surviving are his children, Diane Shields (Rodney), Donna Leahy (John), Charles "Turkey"  Staton (Darlene), Peggy McCormick (Wayne), Clifford Staton (Lynn), and Clinton Staton (Mazie); grandchildren, Chris Noel (Angela), David Noel (Stephanie), Matthew Noel (Ashley), Jennifer Vogel (Jody), Sean Squires, Brian Staton (Stephanie), Timmy McCormick (Sissy), Katie McCormick, Jamie McCormick, Amanda Staton, Carrie Goodrich, Shane Staton, and Ciara Staton; 27 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, at Harrison Funeral Chapel by the Rev. George Warden. Burial will follow at Rockbridge Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends one hour before the service.
