CLYDE CRISSMAN

Clyde Marshall Crissman, age 84, of Clifton Forge, passed Saturday, May 20, 2023, surrounded by family and loved ones at his residence.

Clyde retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation as a sign foreman in 1991. He worked as owner and operator of Crissman’s Supply, supplying sporting goods to Alleghany, Rockbridge, and neighboring counties, as well as being part-owner of the Mountaineer Top Hunting and Fishing in Covington.

He was a lifetime member of the Mountaineer Gun Club, serving as an officer and director to the club. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.

He enjoyed serving the Lord, caring for his family, hunting, and was a fan of the Green Bay Packers and the New York Yankees. Clyde was a faithful member and

deacon of Clifton Forge Baptist Church for many years. Clyde will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by many.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard Crissman and Margie Crawford Crissman; sister, Brenda Sue Crissman; and infant son Gregory Crissman.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara Coffey Crissman of Clifton Forge; his children, Craig (Denise) Crissman of Buena Vista and Sheila (Ricky) Bates of Clifton Forge; grandchildren, Ashlee (Bud) Sizemore, Katlyn Benoit, Hayley Bates, and Carlee Bates; six great-grandchildren; and lifelong friend Linwood Coffey.

The family would like to offer their sincere gratitude to the staff of Intrepid Hospice, especially to Alyssa Rexrode and Jeannie Thompson, who grew close to Clyde and the family over their years of care.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 26, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with the Rev. J. Glenn Linthicum. Following the service, the interment will take place at 1 p.m. at the Timber Ridge A.R. Presbyterian Church cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6:30 to 8 at Nicely Funeral Home.
