ORAN EAKIN
He was the son of Harold O. Eakin and Janetta Rowe Eakin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Oran G. Eakin Jr.; wife of 64 years, Vera Coffey Eakin; and brother Blair W. Eakin.
Surviving are his godchildren, Jeff and Debbie Kerr; two grandchildren, Hillary Kerr Camden (JD) and John-David Kerr (Destinee); and three great-grandchildren, Adalynn Camden, Carter Camden and John-Robert Kerr. H e is also survived by his very dear friends Mark and Kelly Clark and family; Trish Tomlin, Tammie Wilhelm, Ronnie and Diane Bowman, Hope Zollman and Cecil McGee; his cat Smokey Jo; many others dear friends; and several nieces and nephews.
Oran served in the US Air Force 2220th Field Printing at Langley Air Force Base. He was a life member of the Buena Vista Rescue Squad, serving from 1958 to 1979. Oran was part-owner of the Carpet Outlet until retiring in 1989. He was a member of Marlbrook Baptist church where he served as a deacon, on the board of trustees, worked with Children’s Ministries and Senior Saints from 1963 to 2006. Oran continued serving his lord and savior at Victory Baptist church from 2006 until the time of his death.
He l oved t o t ravel. H e visited all of the U.S. states except for North Dakota and Rhode Island. He also traveled to Israel in 1993.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. tomorrow, Thursday, Sept. 14, at Victory Baptist Church of Buena Vista by the Rev. Dean Staton. Burial will follow at Rockbridge Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today, Wednesday, Sept. 13, at Bolling, Grose, & Lotts Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to be made to the Buena Vista Rescue Squad or the Rockbridge Area Hospice.
