W.B. “DOC” WILMORE JR.
Affectionately known as “Doc,” he was the son of the late Walter B. Wilmore and Lula Belle King.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Shirley Wilmore; stepfather, Eldred Potter; and stepbrother, Ray Huffman.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ann; son, Kelly Wilmore, of Independence; granddaughter, Alexandria Canterbury; stepsister, Brenda Taylor; stepbrother, Tommy Huffman; and his beloved Daschund, Tebow.
Walt was a lifetime member of Elliotts Hill United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. He was a Civil War historian, who also ran his own guide service.
He retired from Virginia State Police as senior agent with 31 years of service on Jan. 1, 1995.
Doc was very personable, and enjoyed helping people. He loved the following quote, “Let me do good now, I shall pass through this world but once. Any good that I can do, or any kindness that I can show to any human being, let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.”
A celebration of his life will be conducted at Harrison’s Funeral Home on Thursday, Nov. 2, at 2 p.m. by Chaplain Lt. Steven McChesney, Pastor Michael Long and Pastor Lewis Coffey. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. until service time. Burial will be at Rockbridge Memorial Gardens.
