CARL DEACON SR.
Mr. Deacon was born in Rockbridge County on Aug. 9, 1954, a son of Douglas Whitmore Deacon and Lydia Marie Smith Deacon.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence Deacon and Whitmore Deacon, and two sisters, Gaye Caldwell and Bessie Dudley. Surviving him is a son, Carl Deacon Jr.; brothers Kenton Deacon (Janie), Ray Deacon, Wade Deacon (Wanda) and Hunter Deacon (Grace); sisters Helen Deacon and Hilda Dudley; and a number of nieces and nephews, including special nephews Douglas Deacon, Dan Deacon, Mickey Smith and Donnie Deacon.
Carl enjoyed hunting with family. He enjoyed bluegrass music at festivals and playing with sister Helen Wade and Ray at many different places. He was a member of the Virginia Mountain Blue Grass Boys.
He retired from Hershey after 38 years. Carl was an E-4 corporal in the Marines and a machine ginner in the Army National Guard. He was a member of the Timber Ridge Old Stone Presbyterian Church.
He was laid to rest Jan. 10, 2023, at Timber Ridge Church. N-G
