Nellie Josephine Vick Jacque, 92, died Nov. 18

 

Nellie Joesphine Vick Jacque, 92, was called home to her Lord and Savior on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2023, at Staunton Acute Care and Rehab in Staunton.

Nellie was born to Richard and Lura Vick on July 14, 1931, in Falling Springs.

When Nellie was five her family moved to Covington where she grew up.

Nellie was the eighth and last sibling.

Nellie was preceded in death by her husband Sonny Jacque and siblings Madison, Cecil, Ollie, Ed, Virgina, Frank and Bill Vick.

Nellie and Sonny were married on Dec. 27, 1952, in Covington. They moved to Lexington for a short time. They moved to Fredericksburg, where they stayed a year. They returned to Lexington.

Nellie was an insurance agent for 26 years. In October of 1988 she went on to be a desk clerk at Holiday Inn.

She finally retired at age 80. Where she spent lots of time with her grandchildren and in 2013 the first great grand was born.

She loved going to football and basketball games, shopping going to the beach.

Nellie was a God given woman and instilled God in her daughter and grandkids.

Nellie is survived by her daughter Kim Jacque Cash and husband David. Grandsons Dustin Jenkins (Kailey), Nick Jenkins (Kara) greatgrands Sonny, Baylee, Abigail Joesphine who was named after Nellie, Hazel, Xavier Jenkins and a new great grand arriving this summer and two special people Ashley Brunty and Julie Tayler and ex-son-in-law Tim Jenkins.

Her best friend Annie Blackwell who has passed. Her other two best friends Pat Snider and Lib Chittum.

Adopted grandson Stephen Strowbridge that we raised. Three very special people she thought of as her extra children Larry Blackwell, Karen Blackwell and Gary Blackwell. She was with their mom Annie when all three were born. 

She was nanny to her grandkids friends.

Family night will be held Nov. 27 at Harrison Funeral home from 4 to 6. Per Nellie’s request there will be no service.

She would like donations given to St. Jude’s where she gave every month for over 50 yrs, or to the Shriners hospitals for children.

A reception will immediately follow at the old G-Willikers.
