VINCENT SCHMOLL

Vincent “Casey” Schmoll died on Feb. 4, 2024, at his home in Balleroy-sur-Drome, Normandy, France.

He was born at Mather AFB, Sacramento, Calif., in November 1960. He was the son of retired USAF Col. Ross Schmoll and Constance Burgess Schmoll of Lexington.

He is survived by his parents; husband Eric Stauffer of Balleroy sur Drome, France; daughter Madeleine (Matthew) Busby of Glasgow, Scotland; his sisters Kathleen (Todd) Allgier of Arlington and Susan (Timothy) Weber of Los Angeles, Calif.; and three nieces, Emma, Mya and Fiona Weber.

He lived in and attended public schools in New Hampshire, Indiana, New Mexico, England (UK), New York, Nevada and Idaho. He graduated from Georgetown University, in Washington, D.C., with a degree in Language and Linguistics and was trilingual. He was a U.S. Army veteran. After his military service, he joined the U.S. Treasury Department in Washington, D.C., and assisted in the establishment of the Department’s anti-money laundering organization, the Financial Crimes Investigation Network (FINCIN).

He was instrumental in the creation and expansion of the international anti-money laundering organization, Financial Action Task Force (FATF) and moved from Washington, D.C., to FATF headquarters in Paris, France. He was the deputy director of the Secretariat of the FATF until his illness and death this year.

Funeral arrangements and Interment will be in Balleroysur- Drome, France. N-G
