The 48th annual Parsons Family Golf opening ceremonies commenced on June 22 at the Lodge at The Foundry Golf Club in Powhatan.
Mary Parsons Black and Colonel Ron Black served as the hosts for the evening’s event. Executive Secretary Sid Noble declared this year’s theme an international one, in honor of Molly and Alexandre de la Noue’s recent wedding in France and family members who recently traveled to several countries during their overseas adventures. Family was quizzed on the capitals of these countries (France, Germany, Spain, Andorra, and Monaco).
The tournament was played on Friday, June 23, at Mill Quarter Plantation in Powhatan. Each player was required to wear a French beret on Hole #8 and use a golf club found in France by Aaron and Adam Black.
The closing ceremonies concluded at the Foundry at The Lodge. The Captain’s Choice Trophy for low gross went to The Belgian Bombers team (Aaron and Jonah Black, and Lee and Wyatt Noble). Chas Skidmore received the Natural Bridge Cup for lowest score.
For three years in a row, the longest drive for women went to Tammy Black. Longest drive for men was won by Alex Skidmore. Longest drive under 18 went to Ian and Jonah Black, while the Fleming Trophy for longest putt for men went to Aaron Black.
Closest to the pin on #13 for women was won by Brynn Noble. Closest to pin on #13 for men was achieved by Chas Skidmore. The OOH LA LAS Team of Howard Ward, Mary Black and Ruth Parsons won the Chesterton Cup for lowest number of putts and the Pete Parsons Trophy for the most birdies. The Ron Black Hungry Man Trophy went to The Krauts Team of Emily Black, George Parsons, Tammy Black and Anne Parsons Talkington. Emily Black received the Red Cross Trophy for her dedication to her sister.
