Lexington Presbyterian Church will present another of its celebrated Music at Noon concerts on Wednesday, Feb. 12 at noon in the church sanctuary.
Performing will be organist William McCorkle and tenor Scott Williamson. The program, featuring music by two musical giants of the early 16th century, Orlando Gibbons and Heinrich Schütz, will serve as a preview to a concert to be given by the Rockbridge Chamber Singers on Sunday, Feb. 23, at 3 p.m. at Lexington Presbyterian. T The Chamber Singers’ program will feature anthems by Gibbons (1583-1625), as the musical world observes the 400th anniversary of his death year, as well as a rich selection of solo and ensemble music by Gibbons’ prolific German contemporary, Schütz (1585-1572), a true giant in the history of vocal/ choral music.
The Music at Noon program on Feb. 12 will include solo songs by the two composers, and organ works by Gibbons and by Matthias Weckmann, an illustrious pupil of Schütz.
