The Collierstown Presbyterian Church’s “Souper Bowl of Caring” food drive has begun. This year’s drive has as its theme “Pack the Porch” for those with food needs. The railed porch area at the entrance to the church’s two front doors will be the food collection site on Saturday, Feb. 8, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. The goal for this year’s event is to fill the porch completely with canned food, paper products and monetary gifts that will be donated to Helping Hands, a food ministry of Fairfield Presbyterian Church. The Collierstown Presbyterian Church family invites the community and its churches to help by bringing donations to the church on Feb. 8. Volunteers will pick up donations if requested and will be on hand to help place items on the porch that day. Contributions may also be dropped off at Joe Hudson’s Collision Center, 2409 North Lee Highway, Lexington, or Cattlemen’s Market any business day through Friday this week. For more information on becoming a “Porch Volunteer” or to arrange a donation pick-up, call the church at (540) 463-5918. Monetary gifts can be mailed to Collierstown Presbyterian Church, 31 Church Drive, Lexington, VA 24450 and should be designated for “Pack the Porch.”
On Sunday, Feb. 9, a soup luncheon will be held in the Collierstown Presbyterian Church’s fellowship hall following the 11 a.m. worship service. It will be a time of fellowship and an opportunity to load the trucks that will take the Souper Bowl of Caring’s donations to Helping Hands at the Fairfield Presbyterian Church. Everyone attending is asked to bring soup, salad, or dessert to share. Beverages will be provided.
The Night Circle of the Collierstown Presbyterian Church will hold its monthly meeting tomorrow, Thursday, Feb. 6, in the fellowship hall at 7 p.m. A time of fellowship will begin at 6:30 p.m. followed by the Bible study.
