Chandler Leads Blues’ Boys At Bulldog Invitational
Parry McCluer High School senior Kamilah Richardson won the girls’ shot put to lead the PM indoor track and field teams at the Bulldog Invitational on Saturday at Liberty University.
Richardson’s top throw went 37 feet, 10.5 inches, just 5.75 inches shy of her school record. Union’s Harper Potter placed second with a toss of 36-4, and Heritage’s Makhia Revell finished third with a throw of 36-0.5 Praising Richardson, PM throwing coach Danny Cole said, “Kamilah continues to go into meets as often the top performer with others shooting to beat her. She again responded and retained the number one spot.”
Also competing for the Blues in the girls’ shot put was sophomore Phoebe Woods, who came in 45th with a toss of 20-5.25.
Leading the PM boys was sophomore Kebryl Chandler, who placed third in the 1600-meter run in 4:22.68. Chandler trailed only the winner, Charlottesville’s Samson Palmer (4:18.25) and runner-up Henry Birge (4:20.83) of Patriot. Also competing in the 1600 for the PM boys were junior Josh Cooper (19th, 4:38.47) and his younger brother, freshman Caleb Cooper (29th, 4:46.56).
In the boys’ seeded 3200-meter run, Chandler placed fourth in 9:27.87. Spotswood’s Peyton Kenee won the race in 9:21.64, with Lord Botetourt’s Eric Duncan (9:21.94) placing second and Abingdon’s Gregory Poisson (9:23.44) finishing third.
PM junior Logan Wheelock placed second in the boys’ unseeded 3200meter run, finishing in a personal-record (PR) time of 9:51.22, trailing only the winner, Blacksburg’s Deland Washburn (9:50.64). Atlee’s Mason Lahrman finished third in 9:52.09. Also racing for PM was freshman Hinckley Lovelace (11th, 10:22.7).
Commending Wheelock, PM head coach Chris Poluikis said, “The biggest race of the day for us was Logan. He finally got under that 10-minute mark, and I’ve had only four kids do that in my time here.”
Josh Cooper led the PM boys in the 1000-meter run, placing 21st in 2:44.16. Caleb Cooper came in 39th place in 2:51.82, and PM freshman Sebastian George finished 61st in 3:01.46.
In the boys’ shot put invite, PM junior Griffin Harlow placed fourth with a PR toss of 51-7.75.
PM senior Rayshan Richardson placed third in the boys’ open shot put with a throw of 45-01.75, just off his PR. Junior teammate Vincent Wilson finished in 37th with a toss of 37-0.5.
PM sophomore Henry Lovelace placed 41st in the boys’ 55-meter hurdles in 9.12 seconds and finished 126th in the 300-meter dash in 42.39 seconds.
Junior teammate Caden Mason came in 126th in the 500 meter dash with a time of 1:33.46.
In the team standings, the PM boys placed 12th of 45 teams with 16 points, while the PM girls finished 20th of 38 teams with 10 points.
On Saturday, the Blues will compete in the East Coast Elite Meet held in Roanoke at the Roanoke College’s Kerr-Cregger field house in Salem.
