PM Girls Dominate RC In Rivalry Rematch
Senior Brandon Mays scored a career-high 31 points, sinking six 3-pointers, to lead the Rockbridge County High School boys basketball team to an 82-62 home win over Harrisonburg in a Valley District opener on Friday night in Lexington.
PM Girls Go Cold In Middle Two Quarters
The Parry McCluer High School boys basketball team won a pair of Pioneer District home games last week, overcoming Highland County 52-46 last Tuesday before cruising to a 56-19 win over Eastern Montgomery on Friday. The Fighting Blues improved to 3-1 in the district before falling to 6-6 overall after their 59-52 home loss to Rockbridge County on Saturday.
The Rockbridge County High School girls basketball team suffered a trio of road losses last week, falling 64-34 at Salem last Tuesday, coming up short 39-33 in the Valley District opener on Friday at Harrisonburg and losing their 10th straight game, 47-24, at Parry McCluer on Saturday, to fall to 1-11.
Kicking off the new year, the Rockbridge County and Parry McCluer high school indoor track and field teams performed well at the East Coast Elite Meet on Saturday at Virginia Military Institute’s Corps Physical Training Facility in Lexington.
Led by senior co-captain Brice Hall’s individual title, the Rockbridge County High School wrestling team placed second of 24 teams at the Liberty Christian Academy Invitational on Friday and Saturday in Lynchburg.
In its final home meet of the season, the Rockbridge County High School boys swimming team defeated Valley District rival Turner Ashby, while the RC girls lost to TA on Friday night at the Rockbridge Aquatics Center in Lexington. Also competing well was Parry McCluer High School’s lone swimmer, sophomore Olive King, placing second in her two races.
Bryan Stinespring, former offensive coordinator for the Virginia Tech football team who coached and taught at Lexington High School early in his career, has been added to the staff of new Virginia Military Institute football coach Danny Rocco. Also joining the VMI football staff are Rich Yahner and Pat Brown.

The Parry McCluer High School girls basketball team defeated a pair of nondistrict rivals last week, cruising to a 58-33 home win over Waynesboro on Thursday afternoon before earning a 45-35 road win over Riverheads on Friday night. The victories extended the Blues’ winning streak to five games.
The Parry McCluer High School boys basketball team swept Riverheads in a pair of games last week, winning in a 66-44 rout last Tuesday in Buena Vista before earning a 49-44 overtime victory on Friday at Riverheads.
