Members of the Lexington City Schools Chess Club participated in the ACC Championships in Roanoke on Saturday, Jan. 28. In the K-5 division, the team from Waddell won first place in a large field of six teams and 34 players. The team from LDMS won first place in the K-8 division.

On Sunday, Feb. 5, during the 11 a.m. worship service at the Collierstown Presbyterian Church, the Rev. Malcolm Brownlee conducted a service of installation for Judy Goodbar as she assumed the office of elder. She joins elders Rosalea Potter and Richard Davis in the class of 2024. Rev. Brownlee also presided over the church’s annual congregational meeting at the close of the worship hour.

Thanks to Peter Lipsett for filling the pulpit at New Monmouth Presbyterian Church on Sunday while the Clarks were spending time with family. Thank you to Alex Slaydon for being the worship leader.

June Cash celebrated her 90th birthday at a luncheon in the fellowship hall of Glasgow Baptist Church, following morning worship services, this past Sunday, Feb. 5. Attending were members of her family, friends from church, friends from outside the community, and neighbors, like Kathy Burant, and husband Harper, who helped plan the event for her. Attendees enjoyed some delicious foods, as they wished June a happy birthday with gifts and cards.

The Rockbridge Choral Society presents a concert of works by Handel and Bach, given by the Rockbridge Chamber Singers, William McCorkle, director, with chamber orchestra and soloists, this Sunday, Feb. 12, at 3 p.m. at Lexington Presbyterian Church. Participating with the Chamber Singers will be several singers from Southern Virginia University’s Origin Ensemble, directed by Kyle Nielson.
