City OKs Permit For W&L Health Center

Lexington City Council voted last week to approve a conditional use permit for Washington and Lee University to build a new student health center on East Denny Circle on the university’s campus. The permit had been presented to the Lexington Planning Commission at its Dec. 14 meeting, and the Commission voted 4-0 to recommend approval.

Shorthanded RC Girls Drop Three

The Rockbridge County High School girls basketball team suffered three lopsided losses, falling at home 66-31 last Tuesday to Fort Defiance, losing 83-40 to Valley District rival Spotswood on Friday and dropping an 82-20 road loss to Salem on Dec. 29. The losses extended RC’s losing streak to five games.

Chamber Singers To Present ‘Winter Celebration’ Sunday

The Rockbridge Chamber Singers, directed by William McCorkle, will present a concert this Sunday, Jan. 14, at 3 p.m. in the Lexington Presbyterian Church. Joining the singers will be organist Daniel Brinson of Charlottesville, formerly of Lexington, and a veteran of many choral collaborations. Soloists will include soprano Christine Fairfield; mezzo-sopranos Emma Vasquez and Christine Schadeberg; tenors Christopher Vasquez, Scott Williamson and Evan Odson; and baritone David Sorrells.
