A member of Buena Vista City Council the past three years, retired police officer Steve Webb is a candidate for re-election to a full fouryear term.

Michele Casale, a native of Long Island, New York, who lived in Richmond for 34 years and moved to Buena Vista two years ago, is a candidate for City Council in this fall’s elections.

Ronald Cash, a lifelong Buena Vista resident who has worked for Dominion Energy Virginia the past 35 years, puts finding and recruiting new industries at the top of his priorities for what he’ll seek to accomplish, if he’s elected to City Council this fall.

Jennifer Humphries, a firsttime candidate for Buena Vista City Council, says she is a “caring, concerned citizen of Buena Vista. I have the time to serve and I want to serve my community.”

Michelle Poluikis, a candidate for Buena Vista City Council, is a relative newcomer to the city, having moved here in 2018. She said the community “has been so welcoming to us. I am amazed every day by the kindness of my neighbors here in Buena Vista.”

Stuarts Draft resident Randall Wolf is running for the Virginia House of Delegates in hopes of representing District 36, which covers parts of northern Rockbridge County, including the Fairfield, Raphine and Brownsburg areas.

Ellen Campbell currently represents Rockbridge County in the Virginia House of Delegates 24th district, having won the seat held by her late husband, Del. Ronnie Campbell, in a special election in January.

If elected to the Virginia House of Delegates, Stephanie Clark would turn her attention to helping rural areas.

The summer flowers are holding on for now, but their days are numbered. Neighborhood pools are being closed for the season. Fall is officially here, and I’ve had to move the thermostat to the heat setting.

Thank you to Tim Hodges, Tim Welsh, Deb Jarrett and Alex Slaydon for agreeing to serve on this committee. Session met for their monthly meeting following the congregational meeting. Thanks to Hope Bird for providing lunch. The youths continue to collect used greeting cards to be used for a craft project. Please contact Janeen Welsh if join have any to donate. Boxerwood’s Spectacle 2023, “A Wild Notion,” had to be shortened to just one day’s performance because of the rainy forecast for Saturday, but about 400 people turned out Sunday afternoon for the outdoor theatrical event. On a picture-perfect day to be outdoors, the George C. Marshall Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) hosted its annual Veteran Support Golf Tournament at the Lexington Golf and Country Club on Friday, Sept. 15.

The squad is selling breakfast and lunch foods every Friday, Saturday and Sunday during the excursions, which continue the next three weekends. Rockbridge County FFA members brought home fifth place honors from a field of 43 competing teams at the Virginia Junior Dairymen’s Competition during the State Fair of Virginia in Doswell Sept. 22. Team members included Kathleen Beard, Kaitlyn Childs and Jacob Wallace. Kathleen Beard received special recognition for earning the eighth highest individual ranking among the 170 total senior-level contestants. The team was coached by Lisa Martin.
