Patriotic Moment
During the opening ceremonies of the Lone Star Rodeo Friday night at the Anderson Coliseum of the Virginia Horse Center, an American flag was unfurled in the darkened arena in a salute to the U.S. armed forces. The theme of this year’s rodeo tour was “God and Country.” Several local riders took part in this year’s rodeo, held over two nights at the VHC. For more photos from the rodeo, see page A7. Just 10 Days Ago
While temperatures are expected to climb to around 80 tomorrow, it was only about 10 days ago that a wintry mix produced ice on trees and grass in the higher elevations of the county. This scene was captured on U.S. 11 just south of Fairfield on Feb. 12. The ice brought down a number of tree branches, but otherwise did not cause any problems. The winter weather, though, did bring out VDOT crews that weekend to keep the roads clear. (Mary Woodson photo)
