Food Lion Grant Aids RARA Work
The Rockbridge Area Relief Association (RARA) received $2,700 from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation to help feed neighbors in their time of need this year. RARA used this grant to ensure shoppers in the Neighborhood Grocery have access to sufficient protein through quality meats.

Heliport Site OK’d For Dominion Project
A helicopter is to be used to transport components for power transmission line towers that are to be erected alongside U.S. 501 between the Balcony Falls substation at Glasgow and Amherst County. The new towers are to replace existing ones that are nearly 100 years old as part of a modernization project of the utility infrastructure.

Christmas Present For A Church
High above the ground, workers on Monday begin repairs on the roof of Randolph Street United Methodist Church, which was damaged in a severe windstorm last July. Pastor Reginald Early said that donations from individuals and other local churches supplemented the church’s insurance to pay for the repairs, which are expected to be completed today. Drought Watch Continues In Area
Despite significant rains of recent weeks, a drought watch advisory remains in effect in the Rockbridge area and neighboring localities, according to a press release issued last week by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality in coordination with the Virginia Drought Monitoring Task Force.
