Virginia Military Institute is welcoming guest speaker Robert Child, Emmy nominated writer and director, and author of the book, “Immortal Valor: The Black Medal of Honor Winners of World War II,” on Monday, Feb. 19, at 7:45 p.m. in Gillis Theater in Marshall Hall.
The Chanoyu Tea Society at Washington and Lee University will host a women’s and girls’ day tea on March 9 in the Japanese tea room on W&L’s campus. Sweets and matcha tea will be served, and the students of the Chanoyu Tea Society will perform a special training exercise known as “kagetsu” (“Flower and Moon”).
The Rockbridge Christian Academy will have its 21st annual spaghetti supper on Saturday, Feb. 17, from 5 to 7 p.m.

There was a lot of loud cheering and banter as the delegates’ parade kicked off the 2024 Washington and Lee University Mock Convention Friday morning, with students representing the different states and territories on floats they had created. Dear Members of the Washington and Lee Community and Supporters of The Generals Redoubt, Many of you are lucky enough to be counted among the graduates of this wonderful University. I am not an alumnus but I am the proud parent of a Washington and Lee graduate. Although my son graduated in 2016, I remain committed to the preservation of the history, traditions, and ideals at the school. “General Lee’s College” is so special that it inspires that level of loyalty and commitment from many in the community.

Paisley Griffin is presenting an art show entitled “Icons of Beauty” – in praise of this area’s natural beauty - at Nelson Gallery this month. In her new show she has selected some of our most prominent, most distinctive subjects like House Mountain, the Cowpasture River and Hays Creek, and labeled them “icons of beauty.” Griffin studied art at the Rhode Island School of Design and with Gene Davis at the Corcoran Gallery School of Art in Washington, D.C. She had a successful career as a designer and editor in printing and publishing in the Washington area and moved to Lexington in the early 1990s.
