Wild West Show Toured Here In Fall 1916

The Rockbridge Christian Academy will have its 21st annual spaghetti supper on Saturday, Feb. 17, from 5 to 7 p.m.

The Chanoyu Tea Society at Washington and Lee University will host a women’s and girls’ day tea on March 9 in the Japanese tea room on W&L’s campus. Sweets and matcha tea will be served, and the students of the Chanoyu Tea Society will perform a special training exercise known as “kagetsu” (“Flower and Moon”).

Virginia Military Institute is welcoming guest speaker Robert Child, Emmy nominated writer and director, and author of the book, “Immortal Valor: The Black Medal of Honor Winners of World War II,” on Monday, Feb. 19, at 7:45 p.m. in Gillis Theater in Marshall Hall.

Washington and Lee University will present Anima e Grazia, a Spanish-flavored recital, on Sunday, Feb. 18, at 3 p.m. in Wilson Concert Hall.

The James Madison University Brass Band will perform in Wilson Concert Hall at Washington and Lee University’s Lenfest Center this Saturday, Feb. 17, at 8 p.m. as part of Sonoklect series. A highlight of the concert will be Terry Vosbein’s three-movement composition “Pillars of Brass,” composed specifically for this ensemble. Under the direction of professor Kevin Stees, the JMU Brass Band is one of the most successful collegiate brass bands in the world today. Formed by Stees in the fall of 2000, the band was named the North American Brass Band Association 1st Section Champion in 2004 and 2005, and was the 2006, 2007, 2010, 2016, 2019 and 2022 ABBA Championship Section Runner-up. Kendal at Lexington will host a public lecture featuring Lauren Stull, district ranger for the Glenwood and Pedlar Ranger Districts on the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests, on Feb. 21 at 4 p.m. in Kendal Hall on the Kendal at Lexington campus.

Virginia Military Institute will host the 46th Military School Band & Choir Festival, Friday, Feb. 16, through Sunday, Feb. 18.

Additional tutoring for elementary and middle school students, set out through Gov. Glenn Younkin’s All In Plan, has begun in area schools.

Washington and Lee University’s mock convention commenced with a parade down Main Street featuring a float from every single delegation. The energy was palpable as students dressed as New York hot dogs, Wisconsin cheese heads and Maryland crabs – the latter of which danced and cheered. Floats delivered the students to the convention site, where an impressive lineup of speakers took the stage.
