Phil & Mary Huffman, Brenda & Larry Tolley would like to thank everyone for helping us celebrate our 50th and 53rd Anniversaries at GMP on Aug. 26th. The food was good and plentiful, the Band of Oz was fabulous and the guests the best ever! We so appreciate you spending your afternoon with us and thank you for all the cards and many gift certificates we received. Thanks to the BV Rotary for their help and our friend Robin Moore for our cake gift, it was delicious! Special thanks to Rev. David Bain for attending to celebrate HIM marrying both of us couples over 50 years ago. He is a true treasure of our community and one we all love so very much. Local firefighters responded to an unusual call last Saturday – one for a pregnant donkey that had gotten stuck in deep mud at the end of an old pond. According to a Facebook post by the Glasgow Volunteer Fire Department, the department was called by Effinger Fire & EMS and the Rockbridge County Sheriff’s Office animal control to assist with getting the donkey, named Emma, out of the mud along the Blacks Creek area pond. “Crews were able to maneuver straps under Emma and secured them in a means to not cause harm to her or her little one, then a mechanical advantage system was utilized to pull and free her from the mud,” according to the post. “Once free and back on solid ground, Emma was able to stand on her own and eventually released back to pasture.” The photo at left shows Emma in the mud and the one above shows her on solid ground. Lexington City Schools is welcoming 12 new teachers and staff members for the 2023-24 school year.

Twenty-two new teachers joined Rockbridge County Public Schools for the start of the 2023-2024 school year.

The Brownsburg Community Association invites are residents to come run, jog, walk or stroll from Brownsburg to Wades Mill on Saturday, Sept. 16 in the sixth annual Run of the Mill 5K.

Buena Vista welcomed 19 new teachers and staff for the start of the 2023-2024 school year on Aug. 16.
