In Valley District action last week, the Rockbridge County High School boys basketball team earned its first road win of the season, defeating Turner Ashby 61-55 on Wednesday, before suffering a 62-44 home loss to William Monroe on Friday.

The Parry McCluer High School girls basketball team used a pair of big second-half runs to take control in a 52-14 Pioneer District victory over Craig County in Buena Vista on Friday.

The Rockbridge County High School wrestling team went 3-2 in duals last week, competing against Valley District rivals last Wednesday at East Rockingham before facing tough competition in a nondistrict quad meet on Saturday at Riverheads.

Led by seven individuals who went undefeated, the Parry McCluer High School wrestling team won the Matt Bryant Memorial Duals on Saturday at Franklin High School.

The Rockbridge County High School boys and girls swimming team and PM junior girl Olive King will hold their final home swim meet of the season on Saturday at 5 p.m. when they play host to the Wildcats’ Valley District rival Turner Ashby.

Under the guidance of Virginia Military Institute men’s head soccer coach Nick Regan, Team USA captured the gold medal in futsal (indoor soccer) at the Pan-American Maccabiah Games in Buenos Aires, Argentina on Jan. 3.

Senior Kovyk Chandler broke his own indoor school record in the boys’ 1600-meter run to lead the Parry McCluer High School indoor track and field teams at the Walter Bass High School Invitational on Saturday at Liberty University in Lynchburg.

The Parry McCluer High School boys basketball team earned a 67-61 home win over Nelson County on Monday of last week before cruising to an 84-46 road win over Pioneer District rival Craig County on Friday.

Rockbridge County High School has named Danny Wheeler as its new head girls soccer coach. An alternative education teacher at the high school who has experience coaching soccer and track, Wheeler replaces B.J. Flack, who coached the Wildcats for the last three years before stepping down. Last spring, Flack led the Wildcats to a 5-11-0 record.
