The Rockbridge County High School Chapter of FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) has been busy this school year with lots of activities in and outside of the school building.

The deacons collected items and food for the Natural Bridge/Glasgow food pantry. The Christmas Eve service was held on a very cold evening with lots of visitors and family members attending.

The 24th annual Lee-Jackson Day events will be held in Lexington this Friday and Saturday, Jan. 14-15.
Lucy is a beautiful slinky mini panther. We believe she may have a bit of Siamese in her with her slender face and build. Lucy is already spayed and vaccinated. She is approximately 1 year old and ready for a home to call her own. Visit her at the Rockbridge SPCA.

Counting Down To 2023
On the evening of Dec. 26, special operations members of the Glasgow Volunteer Fire Department took advantage of the ice that has been formed by the constant frigid temperatures to conduct training for several different ice rescue scenarios on a large pond on Robert E. Lee Drive in Natural Bridge Station. These types of conditions are seldom faced but require specialized equipment and training, said Chief John Hill. On Nov. 19, 13 students from Waddell Elementary, Lylburn Downing Middle, and Rockbridge County High schools participated in the Star City Challenge regional chess tournament, sponsored by the Roanoke City Schools.
The Rockbridge Piecemakers Quilt Guild will meet Saturday, Jan. 14, at 9:30 a.m. at the RARA/Piovano building at 350 Spotswood Drive.
Kicking off 2023, La Leche League will host its first meeting of the year at 10 a.m. Jan 10 at Grace Presbyterian Church, 47 Village Way.
Zavery Wallace of Lexington has been named to the Emory & Henry College fall 2022 dean’s list. - Branton Adams and Sydney Adams of Buena Vista made the fall dean’s list at David & Elkins College. - Margaret Hellwig of Lexington was named to the fall dean’s list at Berry College. - Abigail Hamilton of Lexington earned the spring 2022 Dean’s Award for Academic Excellence at Colgate University. - Gabriel Clark of Buena Vista was named to the president’s list at James Madison University for the summer 2022 semester. Mary Monroe of Lexington earned dean’s list honors during the spring semester at Hollins University. - Abby Funkhouser of Fairfield was named to the dean’s list at the University of New Hampshire for earning high honors for the spring semester. - Lily Moreschi of Lexington made the dean’s list for the spring semester at St. Olaf College. - Olivia Persinger of Raphine was named to the Dean’s Academic Honor List for the spring semester at Baylor University. - Elizabeth Hall of Raphine earned an Award of Excellence at Western Governors University College of Business.
The new Natural Bridge Station collection center is to open on Monday, Jan. 9, at 1615 Wert Faulkner Highway. The solid waste trash and recycling collection center is to be open Mondays through Saturdays, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Sundays, 1 to 6 p.m.
