The 30th annual Fall Festival at Timber Ridge “Old Stone” Presbyterian Church will be Saturday, Oct. 21, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.

On Sunday, Oct. 22, Concordia Lutheran Mission will be chartered as a congregation in the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod during the Divine Service at 9:15 a.m.

First Baptist Church in Lexington will recognize and honor those who have battled breast cancer Sunday, Oct. 29, at 11 a.m. with Pastor McKinley Williams bringing the special message and special prayers. Pink ribbons will be distributed to all who attend the service that day.

The summer flowers are holding on for now, but their days are numbered. Neighborhood pools are being closed for the season. Fall is officially here, and I’ve had to move the thermostat to the heat setting.

Thank you to Tim Hodges, Tim Welsh, Deb Jarrett and Alex Slaydon for agreeing to serve on this committee. Session met for their monthly meeting following the congregational meeting. Thanks to Hope Bird for providing lunch. The youths continue to collect used greeting cards to be used for a craft project. Please contact Janeen Welsh if join have any to donate. On a picture-perfect day to be outdoors, the George C. Marshall Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) hosted its annual Veteran Support Golf Tournament at the Lexington Golf and Country Club on Friday, Sept. 15.

Linda Arnold with the Goshen Volunteer Rescue Squad prepares barbecue sandwiches Sunday as part of the squad’s efforts to provide breakfast and lunch to those riding, and those coming to see, the 611 train excursions this fall. The squad is selling breakfast and lunch foods every Friday, Saturday and Sunday during the excursions, which continue the next three weekends. Rockbridge County FFA members brought home fifth place honors from a field of 43 competing teams at the Virginia Junior Dairymen’s Competition during the State Fair of Virginia in Doswell Sept. 22. Team members included Kathleen Beard, Kaitlyn Childs and Jacob Wallace. Kathleen Beard received special recognition for earning the eighth highest individual ranking among the 170 total senior-level contestants. The team was coached by Lisa Martin.
