Charlie Kurtz, who served as Parry McCluer High School’s head football coach in the mid-1950s and early 1960s, died on Tuesday, Jan. 30 in Roanoke. Kurtz, 90, had been living with dementia for about 10 years.

The Parry McCluer High School boys basketball team won the Pioneer District regular- season title and earned the top seed in the district tournament by defeating Narrows 90-74 on Monday night at James River High School in Buchanan.

The Fighting Blues (18-4 overall, 9-1 district) cruised to an 90-48 win over Bath County on Tuesday of last week before defeating Narrows 83-66 on Thursday.
