Goshen Eyes Collecting Lodging Tax Revenues
At its regular meeting on July 6, Goshen Town Council discussed beginning the process of having the town take over collection of the transient occupancy tax (also known as the lodging tax) to keep the revenue generated within the town. Rooms rented in the town are currently subject to a 10 percent transient occupancy tax which is collected by Rockbridge County.

New Dress Code Proposed For PMHS
Parry McCluer High School’s principal, Todd Jones, has been working throughout the past year with a committee comprised of students, teachers, and parents to revise the school’s dress code. Jones believes their efforts have developed a more concise and positive dress code for students and teachers.

Crime Report
The Rockbridge County Sheriff’s Office made the following felony arrests over the past six weeks: Zeb Anthony Henson, 47, of Lexington, for one felony count of breaking and entering and one count of grand larceny on July 6.

High Over The Park

Jimmy Southers’ patriotic 1953 tow truck helped lead the way for the 38th annual Children’s Bike Parade in downtown Lexington on the Fourth of July. The following local students received a degree from Washington and Lee University on May 25. Commencement ceremonies for 453 Washington and Lee seniors were held on the university’s historic front lawn.

Enjoying Freedom Food – After The Rain
Not just one, but two storms, preceded the third Freedom Food Festival in downtown Lexington on July 3. Those setting up for the event, including volunteers at the Natural Bridge State Park/CHEFS Catering booth (above) gathered under the tents, and tried to keep the water from bringing the tents down. After the second storm, though, the skies cleared, tables were cleaned off and thousands descended upon Main Street for the event. Among those serving up food were volunteers in the Southern Inn/Connections Plus Healthcare + Hospice food booth (below left). Lightening is believed to be the cause of a house fire in Lexington, as well as an outbuilding fire in Buena Vista, on Monday afternoon, July 3.
